PAROLE, Md. (Map, News) - About 600 workers have returned to the Annapolis Towne Center construction site, following a gas leak at a building under construction.

Anne Arundel County fire officials says a worker accidentally struck a 2 1/2 inch pressurized natural gas line outside the building Monday morning, resulting in a gas leak throughout the 11-story tower. Workers throughout the complex were evacuated and entrances to the site were closed for more than two hours.

Fire officials say the leak was controlled and Baltimore Gas & Electric took responsibility for verifying that the building affected by the leak was safe for work to resume.

The construction site near Parole is the same location where a worker was killed in a crane accident last week.
