Article History FREDERICK, Md. (Map, News) - Brian Baillie is the winner of the sixth annual Frederick Marathon.
The 25-year-old from Washington, D.C., completed the 26.2-mile course in two hours, 34 minutes and 49 seconds.
Baillie tells WFMD he ran conservatively and tried to conserve energy. He made his move around mile 17 or 18, when he saw the runner in front of him was losing energy.
Twenty-seven-year-old Melissa Tanner of Bethesda was the top female finisher. She says the victory was special for her as a Maryland native.
More than 5,200 runners participated in the marathon, which had about 500 participants for its first running in 2003.
