FREDERICK, Md. (Map, News) - The Maryland State Board of Education has upheld the Frederick County school board's denial of an application for a proposed charter school for seventh to 12th grade girls.
The proposed school for 360 students was to be called Education Alternative Communities Happen, or EACH. The applicants said the curriculum would emphasize math and science, and what were described as "critical needs" languages: Chinese, Russian and Arabic.
The county school board rejected the proposal in November, citing weaknesses in the curriculum plan, provisions for students with disabilities, recruitment procedures, the organizational chart and the building plan. Supporters of the proposal then appealed the decision to the state board.

My husband and I had sons and our sons attended all boys schools. If now I had daughters of school age, I would certainly enroll them in an all girls school. I received my high school diploma from an all girls school and in return was the recipient of an excellent education. I believe Frederick County has erred greatly.
