VENTURA, Calif. (Map, News) - About 10,000 barrels of crude oil spilled into a storage tank owned by a pipeline company in Ventura, officials said Thursday.

The spill was reported to the Ventura County Environmental Health Division last week and the oil was confined to a secondary containment system owned by Crimson Pipeline, the agency said in a statement.

There were no "visible impacts" to the environment and cleanup was completed Monday, the statement said.

It wasn't immediately clear what caused the spill. An after-hours call to Crimson, which operates pipelines throughout California, was not immediately returned.

Although several residents complained about odor from the spill, the concentration of oil vapors does not pose a health hazard, the statement said.

If its the public's business coming through a private device, why is it any less the public's business? The mayor is saving our tax dollars by not billing us for his cell phone and service? Right.

It's a container vessel not a tanker. You wrote in the same article, "... allowing the tanker ship to relocate from the middle of the San Francisco Bay to a local shipyard ..." "The 900-foot container vessel has been anchored in the greasy waters of the San Francisco Bay since Wednesday,..."

What use was pilot John Cota? Wasn't it his job to prevent such mishaps? I would hope he has been suspended until further investigations conclude.
