San Mateo County (Map, News) - After four years in Napa State Hospital, Brandon Louis Gill — who allegedly stabbed a stranger to death in San Bruno — will face prosecution, a San Mateo County judge ruled Wednesday. Gill, 28, was deemed competent to stand trial by Judge Clifford Cretan after the judge read reports from several psychiatrists. Gill pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity Wednesday, Deputy District Attorney Elaine Tipton said.
Gill faces the possibility of life in prison in connection with the killing of Romeo Lansang, 64, of South San Francisco. Prosecutors say Lansang was walking outside Artichoke Joe’s Casino at 1 p.m. on March 25, 2004, when Gill approached him from behind and attacked him with a kitchen knife.
