Man dies dismantling crane

PAROLE, Md. (Map, News) - A construction worker dismantling a crane was crushed to death Wednesday in an accident 200 feet above a shopping center under construction, a fire official said.

Dennis Umanzor, 43, of Silver Spring, died when he was pinned between two pieces of the crane WRC-TV reported. Rescuers found him dead shortly after the accident, which occurred about 9:15 a.m., said Michael Cox, division chief for the Anne Arundel County fire department. He was not immediately identified.

No one else was hurt and nothing is believed to have been wrong with the crane at the Annapolis Towne Center construction site, Cox said.

"The crane is in no danger of collapsing or anything like that," Cox said, adding that "we don't know exactly what happened."

"Apparently, they were in the process of dismantling the crane when something went wrong and one worker was caught between pieces and crushed," Cox said.

The man's body was removed shortly after 11 a.m.

Does anyone know how we can get information on the names of the victims. I think my friend was in that building.
