The first baseman for the San Francisco State softball team will be honored as one of the best players in program history during a Senior Day ceremony prior to Saturday’s doubleheader against UC San Diego. Freemer, an Oakley native, holds the school record for home runs (33), RBIs (135) and runs scored (151) and is in the top 10 in seven other statistical categories.

Have you been getting nostalgic as you prepare for this final homestand? Definitely. It’s exciting and kind of sad at the same time. Playing softball is something I’ve done my whole life.

Is there one of your school records that stands out as most meaningful? The home runs. I never look for them but when they happen, it’s always exciting. [For the record-breaker] I got an inside screwball and just got through it.

What was it about San Francisco State that drew you to the school? I got a lot of offers from out of state, but I always wanted to be in California. I grew up an hour away and always loved coming into The City. Plus, my parents could watch me play. They’ve never missed a game.

Are your parents (John and Carol) easy to spot in the stands? Definitely. My dad’s kind of quiet, but my mom is always wearing purple. And she brings lunch for the whole team to eat between doubleheaders.

The team needs a few wins this weekend to advance to the Division II regional playoffs. What’s the mind-set entering the series? We need to play well and at least split the four games. Winning three would be even better. Softball’s basically been my job for the last four years and I want to keep it going a little while longer.
