The Pixar producer/director entered last weekend’s Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race in Long Beach to immerse himself in the world of “Cars 2,” which he’s directing.
He said he held a five-second lead in an 18-car field after eight laps, but lost control with three turns to go and slammed into the tire wall at 90 mph. He ended up finishing ninth. However, he was the pole winner, an honor that sent $15,000 to two local charities: Samaritan House in San Mateo and Little Hands Preschool serving Belmont and San Carlos. A rerun of the race will air May 3 on SpeedChannel at 3 p.m.
