The fifth passenger in the car, a toddler, was flown to Johns Hopkins Children's Center in critical condition, said Howard Police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn.
Police did not release the names of the people killed in the 2000 Nissan Altima, but said one of the victims was an infant and the other appeared to be a teenager.
A driver and passenger in the box truck suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Howard County General Hospital, Llewellyn said.
Police said the crash occurred about 7:35 a.m. on U.S. Route 1 near Patuxent Range Road when the Altima, apparently driven by an adult male, crossed into oncoming traffic in the northbound lane and struck the box truck.
Police blocked off U.S. 1 from Patuxent Range Road to Route 175 for several hours as the wreckage was cleared.
Neighbors lined the street Tuesday watching as a tow truck carried away the crushed Altima.
Residents of a nearby community said crashes are common on the busy road with a posted speed limit of 50 mph and that a traffic signal would make it safer.

My condolences to the family however I knew Armando and he is a wonderful guy and would never do anything to hurt anybody. Unfortunately accidents happen all too often and he has to live with it everyday of his life. My heart is broken for him and the hard times he faces due to this. There are many things that should be concidered and he should not be looked at like a terrible reckless man because he is one of the nicest people I know. My heart reaches out to him and his loved ones through this.

I was at the scene of the accident. It was my understanding that three Chinese students were killed. There were two rescue helicopters, a fire engine, and at least two ambulances. There was a "police dog" searching the scene. There was a special trip by a helicopter to take arial photos of the scene. It is very strange that this event no longer has references on the web site of the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

I think the news needs to concentrate more on the loss of this family instead of whether or not they had seatbelts on. My sister made the 911 call of this tragic accident and she states that these little girls were in fact in seat belts. This is making this family look like they weren't responsible enough to buckle in their babies when in fact they did. My heart goes out to them.

When driving in any area, I immediately slow down upon hearing fire, ambulance or police sirens and would never ever enter an intersection on a green light upon hearing those sirens until I knew I knew it was safe to do so. Also, I have observed that fire, ambulance and police vehicles slow down before entering and then proceed slowly through the intersections which is the proper procedure for them to do. Also, when traffic allows, one is to pull over to the side of the road if at all possible. Frankly, those sirens are very loud and no matter from whatever direction the fire apparatus was coming, those sirens were audible to those three people. My heart goes out to their families.

All I have to say is people do not stop like they should and by law have to for Emergency vehicles. I am not saying that anyone deserved to die, but it will always be in my mind and it should be for any good citizen that an emergency vehicle has the right of way when sirens and lights are on. The people in that SUV were in the wring, but it is sad they had to pay so harshly. My heart goes out to those firemen in truck No.27 that were rushing to save people and because of the SUVs error will have to live with the fact they have killed three people for the rest of their lives.
