FORMER COLT NUTTER DIES AT 77
LA PLATA, Md. — Former Baltimore Colt Madison “Buzz” Nutter, who won two NFL championships as the Colts’ starting center, has died.
Nutter died Saturday of heart failure at Civista Medical Center. Nutter was 77 years old and lived in La Plata, according to Michael Raymond of Raymond Funeral Home in La Plata.
“Unfortunately, another member of the great championship Baltimore Colt team passed away,” Bruce Laird, a former Colt, said. “He was great family man and friend.”
Nutter won championships with the Colts in 1958 and 1959. He was a 12th-round draft choice of the Washington Redskins in 1953 but failed to make the team. A year later, the Colts signed him.
After being traded in 1961 to the Pittsburgh Steelers, he returned to Baltimore in 1965 for his final season.
A Mass will be held Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Plata.
