10-year-old boy dies of heart attack at school

A 10-year-old boy died of a heart attack during a gym class at his D.C. elementary school, authorities said.

The child was complaining of chest pains before he collapsed at about 11 a.m. Thursday at LaSalle Elementary School in Northeast Washington, a D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Alan Etter said. School officials were performing CPR on the boy when the rescue crews arrived at about 11 a.m. He was take Children’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. - Scott McCabe

Sex assault case yields conviction, new arrest

A year after a 13-year-old Maryland girl reported she was sexually assaulted by two acquaintances in Manassas, one man awaits sentencing and another was arrested Tuesday in the case, Prince William County police said.

Stacy Lamar Ellis, 29, was convicted of four charges April 1 including aggravated sexual battery and two counts of forcible sodomy, according to a Thursday police report.

A second suspect, Earl L. Smithers, 41, was arrested in Fairfax County this week and is being held without bond on charges of rape, indecent liberties with a minor, aggravated sexual battery and two counts of forcible sodomy, the report said.

Brother of suspect arrested in stabbing case

Rony Antonio Izaguirre-Henrique, 18, of Hyattsville, was arrested in Annandale, Va., Thursday on charges stemming from the stabbing death of a 15-year-old Parkdale High School student on April 2, Prince George’s County police said.

The arrest comes a week after Izaguirre-Henrique’s brother, Walter, 18, was arrested on charges related to the same crime. Police say both are members of the MS-13 gang. Rony is being held in Fairfax County while he awaits extradition to Maryland. - Freeman Klopott
