SAN FRANCISCO (Map, News) - American Airlines canceled more than 60 flights around the Bay Area on Wednesday, including 32 at San Francisco International Airport, as part of a nationwide push to fix faulty wiring.

The cancellations add to a growing list of issues plaguing the airline industry in recent weeks that have left many passengers frustrated.

“The industry is in a substantial state of turmoil,” said Stuart Klaskin, with KKC Aviation Consulting in Miami.

Lupe and Pablo Montantes found that out first hand when they arrived at SFO on Wednesday and learned that their American Airlines flight to Hawaii was canceled.

“It ruined our plans. Maybe we’re not going to have a vacation; we’re just in limbo,” Lupe Montantes said at SFO while she and dozens of other passengers awaited word about a refund.

Fortunately, Pablo Montantes was able to secure a flight shortly afterward on Northwest Airlines with help from American Airlines representatives, saving the two-week vacation. Other passengers were working with the airline to make their trips on different airlines Wednesday, SFO Duty Manager Abubaker Azam said.

At Oakland International Airport, five American flights were canceled Wednesday, said spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes. Mineta San Jose International Airport spokesman David Vossbrink said approximately 24 American flights were canceled after six were scrubbed Tuesday.

I agree, Southwest aircraft, besides the Boeing 737-700, are pretty beat up and ghetto. Flying Virgin is the only way to go, clean new Airbus Aircraft, freindly staff, and tons of entertainment onboard. I only wish they flew to other destnations out of San Diego.

But the low cost carriers out of SFO do not fly to places like Chicago, New York, or do they?

I read this in the printed copy. It shows Philli coming in first. No wonder the managers at SFO are taking shots at the study. Not like SFO would be a jewel by the sea... but Philli?

Go for it! The noise over Montara and Moss Beach has become unbearable on some days. And the claim that the airport cares and calls back is BS. I have called them on really bad days and not once have they had the courtesy to return a call and discuss the issues. They deserve what is coming for them.

Once again the genius of the marketplace has brought us the current state of u.s. airlines. I suspect many of us flyers would be willing to pay a bit more not to be left waiting at the gate.

southwest is super ghetto with the lack of seat assignments, while it's lax it is not efficient and planes look beat up and in poor shape
