Area in for weekend of warm weather

Bay Area (Map, News) - It’s time to head to the beach as winds should die down as temperatures climb up Friday and Saturday in a welcome break from a cold week.

Temperatures should reach into the upper 60s in San Francisco and the low 70s on the Peninsula today, according to the National Weather Service. On Friday, temperatures should climb to the mid-70s in The City and mid-80s on the Peninsula, according to the service. It will stay sunny and warm with only light winds Saturday.

“It’s summertime in a hurry,” meteorologist David Soroka said. “A strong high-pressure ridge over eastern Pacific is going to move eastward and hang over California through a good part of the weekend. The whole state is getting nice and warm.”

Hot days will not mean warm nights, however, as temperatures will swing back down to lower 50s Friday and Saturday nights, Soroka said.

The nice weather won’t last long as temperatures are expected to begin cooling off starting Sunday. Next week, temperatures will settle back at a normal mid-April range of mid-60s, according to Soroka.

He said last year, temperatures at this time averaged around 64 degrees in San Francisco. The last heat wave that came through the Bay Area in mid-April, hitting 90 degrees, was in 1989, he said.

Virginia definitely doesn't know how to handle this type of weather, let alone do Virginia drivers know how to drive. Being from Indiana, it cracks me up to see places of business closing down because the weather report says there's a chance of snow. People need to slow down and remember what driver's ed taught them, it'll save lives.

The problem is that Virginia does not know how to handle winter weather. It's not just highways. "It was a perfect storm at a perfect time..."? Gimme a break. Just own up to not having enough DOT trucks, and to not having an efficient plan when snow/ice falls. There certainly are plenty of other states that deal with snow/ice every year, yet they don't seem to have these issues. It's amazing really.
