Article History BALTIMORE (Map, News) - None other than Baltimore’s most famous (or, to some, most infamous) bald man — former city police commish and now top-rated radio talk-show host Ed Norris — shaved the way for a recent fundraiser at The Lodge Bar in Baltimore to benefit the St. Baldrick’s Society.
Thirty-seven shavees — four of whom were women — and barbers gathered for this hair-losing event as part of the “world’s biggest volunteer-driven fundraising program for childhood cancer,” according to its Web site. In its eight years of existence, more than 46,000 heads worldwide have been shaved and more than $34 million raised.
“I’m a little partial to this look,” a smiling Norris told the nervous shavees.
“Everybody had such a good time they’re already starting to grow out their hair for next year,” said thrilled event organizer Elaine Garrison.
More than $16,000 was raised from this local event. For more information on St. Baldrick’s, go to www.stbaldricks.org.
SPOTTED
» Velvet-voiced Tony Bennett surprised the folks at Da Mimmo’s in Little Italy a day before his recent show at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. “He usually comes in the day of the show, after his sound check,” owner Mary Ann Cricchio said. Chef Masoodi prepared all of Bennett’s favorites, which included grilled calamari as an appetizer and pasta a la Campania as the entree. “Another wonderful memory,” Cricchio said. “He looks great at 81, and it was as if we spent an evening with an old friend.”
» Jen Bloomer, media relations director for the National Aquarium in Baltimore, was seen this week having a power lunch while planning the aquarium’s first-ever “Green Gala — Celebrating Thoughtful Choices,” which will be held Saturday. So what’s the big eel, I mean deal? Well, she was at Edo’s Sushi, which we thought was pretty fishy, I mean funny! For more on the gala, go to www.aqua.org.
PSST! YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST
Poor 101.9 Lite FM’s Diane Lyn. Seems the radio host broke a toe just a week before her big dance competition at this Saturday’s Memory Ball to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. “I broke it at the gynecologist’s office of all places,” Lyn said. How in the world did ...? “Don’t ask!” she countered. Still, the show must go on, and Lyn plans to be there dancing.
