Manassas (Map, News) - A twice-deported gang member and illegal immigrant who had been convicted of attempted murder in New York was among the 34 workers arrested Monday during federal raids in Manassas.
Carlos Moran-Bravo, of Mexico, now faces federal charges for re-entering the country after committing an aggravated felony and could face a sentence of up to 20 years in jail if convicted.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents executing the raid did not know of Moran-Bravo's past conviction when he was among the men from five Latin American countries arrested at two CMC Concrete Construction locations in Manassas.
When agents ran his fingerprint through federal databases, they learned he had been deported to Mexico in 1996 and again in 2004.
His second deportation came after serving more than 65 months for an attempted murder charge in fall 1999 in New York.
According to an affidavit, Moran-Bravo admitted having been twice deported, being convicted of attempted murder and being a former member of the Ninos Del Barrio gang, or Kids of the Hood, said Special Agent Joshua W. DeLay in court documents.
Moran-Bravos told the agent he returned to the United States in May 2007.
He is the first of the Manassas workers arrested Monday for being in the country illegally to face criminal charges, said Jim Rybicki, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.
The four-page affidavit does not provide any additional details of Moran-Bravo's conviction or say how he entered the country in May.

drunk driving and illegal immigration are two different issues. Being legal or illegal doesn't not give people better judgment of whats right and wrong. Also everyone pays taxes, even immigrants. I'm not in favor of raids because it gives the impression that we have gone back in time (does persecution of Christians,or Jews ring a bell). i also believe that mass persecution violates humans rights. Moreover, i don't see what's the horrible crime they have committed to deserved it.

The newest Illegal Alien Crime in Northern Virginia is Felony Hit & Run - they drive drunk as skunks - hit people causing injury in many cases and then run away from the accident - abandoning the car or trying to hide at home. How would you like to have your child kil;led in their car because some illegal - uninsured moron hit them broadside at a light ??? Fed Up In Virginia

All readers must vote and hold accountable those in public office that do not enforce our laws. Local mayors don't have the right to call their city a "santuary city". Federal law trump local law, and since when does a mayor tell federal law enforcement to "lay off" The drugs and crime have got to go, Lazy public officials have to go with them...Raciast or not they gotta go.

I live in Manassas and will probably be labeled as racist and anti-immigrant for writing this, but I am relieved that a criminal like Carlos Moran-Bravo is, once again,in federal custody and no longer walking the streets of Manassas.

That is about the 10th time this year i have heard about a twice deported convict being picked up for crimes again. Sorry No. Va. once again the individual was an illegal Hispanic. Profiling is not intentional, or even necessary in this case. It's just a common and sad occurrence.

Double standards said:
I've had enough of this country's double standards: turning a blind eye to illegals, while continually making it harder for us who bothered to be legally here to comply with ever-increasing paperwork, higher fees, and more bureaucracy, where any mistake on our part triggers a huge alarm. Let's not forget how much of our privacy is surrendered in the process of getting a visa. But we do it anyway because we respect the law. Out of 12 million illegals, it would be ridiculously naive and dangerous to assume all are good people trying to earn a living here. I think we ought to fear foreign fugitives illegally present today than anything else--they could be right there eating with you at a restaurant, or repairing stuff in your house, or sitting on the bus next to you...if that doesn't creep you out, I don't know what does.

ICE - How about coming back up to NorCal again? I'll bet we can match that "1,300" number right here. If nothing else, it'll put the fear of God back into these arrogant SOB's again. They need to be reminded (again!) that they are illegal trespassers. Not even "guests" who were never invited, but trespassers. Squatters. Nothing more. They need to be reminded that AMERICAN CITIZENS -- regardless of their color or ethnicity -- OWN this nation. Not them. They are entitled to nothing except a free airplane or bus ride home, with the adminishment from the AMERICAN PEOPLE to enter through the FRONT DOOR next time, AFTER hundreds of thousands of LEGAL APPLICANTS have had their chance. This "line cutting" doesn't cut it. We're tired of members of "The Race" thinking they're better than everyone else and sneaking in here, and that the legal process doesn't apply to them. It does. We're tired of them acting like they alone own the place, and are entitled to do whatever they want with im

The Permanent Resident Card, Form I-551, is issued to all Permanent Residents as evidence of alien registration and their permanent status in the US. The card must be in your possession at all times. This requirement means that you are not only required to have a currently valid Form I-551 at all times, but also that you must carry your currently valid Form I-551 on your person at all times. The Permanent Resident Card currently is issued with a 10-year validity. You status as a Permanent Resident does not expire with the 10-year validity. Only the card expires. The card is only valid up to the expiration date and must be renewed before it expires. Change of Address: You are required to notify us of any change of address within 10 days of that change. Form AR-11 is used for that purpose. You can learn more about change of address requirements is found at "How Do I Report a Change of Address?" Non Citizens: Non-citizens are also required to have their Visa or Temporary Work Card

Local law enforcement should check on immigration status during routine investigations. If a person is stopped and questioned and does not have command of conversational English and has a heavy accent, there is a good chance that person was not born or schooled in the United States! That should be the 1st clues to ask further questions about immigration status. Police should not conduct mass investigations; I refer only to routine stops with probable cause and investigations in the course of the performance of their duties! They should then ask for the persons appropriate documentation. After all, if a citizen is asked for identification, the police can detain you pending verification of who you are.

If we do not secure our borders today and remove these 12 million illegal immigrants, will the next group double to 24 million illegal immigrants before we attempt to reform our laws? I hope not, but the time is ripe for an effective reform program to allow a guest workers program that lead some workers to citizenship. It is also to our advantage to reduce some traditional forms of immigration, refugees and asylum seekers to this country. If the work is important to be completed in the United States we will increase wages or do the work ourselves; however, it will likely be supplemented with a guest workers program.

If we review the 1986 Amnesty Program we know that approximately 6 million people were covered by that program and were given resident alien status. Twenty-one years later we have approximately 12 million illegal immigrants smuggled or walked into the United States or have violated their visa provisions. During that period of time more people from Europe, Asia the Middle East... have stayed in this county beyond their visa provisions or entered this country illegally. I have no doubt that the Amnesty Program encouraged and empowered this group of illgal immigrants. If we do not secure our borders today and remove these 12 million illegal immigrants, will the next group double to 24 million illegal immigrants before we attempt to reform our laws? Keep up the good work, ICE. Just remember, legal immigrants must carry their resident alien cards at all time, but maybe not in the shower... and they must provide a change of address to immigration authorities within 10 days! Only 2 percent work in our agriculture industry. Now, start fining the employers and put them out of business if they cant comply with our laws...

I'm not sure I want the "Border fence" to be built. If the Orwellian Democrats keep using newspeak to confuse their base, the ignorati, who are collectively attempting to destroy the sovereignty of our country, maybe the “Fence” isn’t such a good idea after all. If this illegal unconstitutional Democrat led crap keeps making gains, I may want to GET OUT!

Since 911 there has been no attempt to secure our borders or enforce our laws. The current senate bill is all about giving 20 million Illegal Aliens and criminals of every kind legal status and all the benefits of citizenship, while not securing our borders and allowing sanctuary cities to exist. The president has lied to us about the 700 miles border of funded fence signed into law last year. Everyone knows has no intention of protecting our borders. If the bill gets through the Senate and the House, the open borders Republicans and Democrats will work together when the bills have to be reconciled in committee to strip out any amendments that the "grand bargainers" don't like. Therefore, at this point, it doesn't matter what amendments pass, because any tough enforcement provisions that slip through will be rendered toothless when the bills are reconciled. The current bill contains provisions for the acceleration of the Security and Prosperity Partnership, a plan for North Ame
