SAN FRANCISCO (Map, News) - Bay Area residents should fold up the beach towel and get ready for a drizzly rest of the week, weather experts say.

Cooler weather will pass over the region Wednesday and will carry along several light rain systems lasting through Monday, said Bob Benjamin, forecaster for the National Weather Service. High temperatures will hover in the mid-to-upper 50s on the coast and mid-to-upper 60s inland, but the Bay Area shouldn’t cool down too much more than the early spring warmth we’ve been experiencing, he said.

“We’re looking at light rain showers Wednesday and measurable rain through the weekend, but nothing really major,” Benjamin said.

The first rain system will mainly pass over the North Bay on Wednesday, but should also hit San Francisco. Expect partly cloudy skies Thursday and most of Friday before another, more drenching rain system strikes this weekend, he said.

“The thick of that weekend system will likely be Friday evening, but again, it’s not going to be a really strong front,” Benjamin said.

This is certainly not atypical weather for the start of spring, he said, and as always in April, we can expect more rain, at times formidable, in the next month.

Virginia definitely doesn't know how to handle this type of weather, let alone do Virginia drivers know how to drive. Being from Indiana, it cracks me up to see places of business closing down because the weather report says there's a chance of snow. People need to slow down and remember what driver's ed taught them, it'll save lives.

The problem is that Virginia does not know how to handle winter weather. It's not just highways. "It was a perfect storm at a perfect time..."? Gimme a break. Just own up to not having enough DOT trucks, and to not having an efficient plan when snow/ice falls. There certainly are plenty of other states that deal with snow/ice every year, yet they don't seem to have these issues. It's amazing really.
