WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Welcome to spring and the first week of our new On-the-Go series! Over the next 12 weeks we will explore 12 tranquil tips to help you bloom fully this spring. Our first tip is to set an intention — at the beginning of your day, the start of a project or before a meeting. Intention is a fancy way of saying “a purpose or plan that aligns with your values.” You may even create a ritual around intention setting by lighting a candle, taking a few deep breaths, or closing your eyes for moments of reflection to feel what is going on within your body.

At the beginning of all yoga classes, I encourage students to set an intention for their practice by suggesting questions such as, Why am I on the yoga mat? What am I hoping to gain or shed through my practice today? What is going on mentally, physically and emotionally for me at this time? How can I capture this with a clear intention?

You, too, can explore these questions as you begin to bloom alongside the natural world during this special time of the year.

By setting mindful intentions, we are able to get clear on why we’re doing what we do. Explore how getting clear on intentions can help you determine your vision. For example, maybe you’re holding out on happiness until you find the perfect partner. But on further reflection, you realize that what you’re really wanting is a more active social life that includes connecting to a like-minded community, not one person in particular.
