SAN FRANCISCO (Map, News) - Members of the bicycle team Roaring Mouse Cycles and others did a ride through Golden Gate Park to remember teammate Matt Peterson, a 29-year-old San Francisco resident, and star triathlete Kristy Gough, a 30-year-old San Leandro resident, who were killed Sunday morning in a collision with a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office patrol car.

On Monday, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office identified the deputy involved in the crash as James Council, 27, who has been a sheriff’s deputy for approximately 18 months.

Council reportedly told a good Samaritan who showed up at the accident scene that he had fallen asleep at the wheel, according to the San Jose Mercury News, although California Highway Patrol investigators told the newspaper that they have found no evidence to support that.

A third bicyclist, identified as 20-year-old Christopher Knapp from German, was taken to Stanford Medical Center and was listed in stable condition as of Monday afternoon.
