SAN FRANCISCO (Map, News) - Tierney Jones scored 18 of her 26 points in the second half as host Washington beat International Studies Academy 60-52 Friday in the San Francisco Section girls’ basketball quarterfinals.

The Eagles (16-11) advance to Tuesday’s semifinals at Kezar Pavilion against Lowell.

Rachelle Hwee had 14 points and 11 assists for Washington. Jones also had 12 rebounds.

Brittney Allen led ISA with 25 points. The Cobras finished 15-13.

Lowell 68, Marshall 17

Anna Bukareva scored 18 to lead the Cardinals (24-4) past the Phoenix (1-16). Bukareva had 12 in the first half, when Lowell sprung out to a 35-4 lead.

“[The Phoenix] are kind of inexperienced,” Lowell coach Aki Kuwada said. “Our defense is a lot better than our offense and once we get that going it’s hard for even an experienced team to score.”

Marshall managed to unleash a brief flurry of points in the third quarter, starting with 5:45 left when Nunu Colbert made an eight-footer.

The Phoenix, which dressed only six players for the contest, scored 12 in that quarter, but still lost ground to Lowell.

Marshall again failed to hit a field goal in the fourth quarter, eventually scoring again on a Colbert free throw with less than a minute left.

Lincoln 68, Galileo 48

Hallie Meneses hit five 3-pointers in the first half and Lincoln (20-10) cruised to a 68-48 victory Friday night.

“We’re getting used to each other and what each of us do best,” Meneses said after she had poured in 23 points, most of which came on her barrage of long distance shots.

Lincoln hounded the Lions (11-16) with full-court pressure defense and pushed ahead on every offensive opportunity to close the first quarter on a 19-5 run on their way to a fairly easy victory.

Joshua Zeidler

Wallenberg 47, Balboa 17

Shawnte Taylor had 25 points and 10 rebounds as the fourth-seeded Bulldogs (11-11) eased past the seventh-seeded Buccaneers (1-20) at Kezar Pavilion.

“Shawnte is extremely important to us,” Wallenberg coach Alan Tong said of his 5-foot-11 junior center. “The problem is, the rest of the team kind of depends on her. Sometimes I feel I should take her out to see how the others can play without her.”

The Bulldogs, playing in their first postseason in five years, were rampant in the first three quarters, outscoring the Buccaneers 40-9 while limiting their opponents to just two buckets from the field. The Bucs had their best period in the fourth when Hitomi Silver and Wendy La hit back-to-back treys.

“In the playoffs, you really need to step up and play, and we didn’t really do that until the second half,” Wallenberg coach Alan Tong said. “I think — I know — we can play a lot better.”

I agree with the guy that goes to Mission, Jerry Brown is not that good. He is just really big.Im a junior now and when i graduated from the 8th grade in 2005 SHCP had all the best players from the city going to play basetball there. When i was a freshman there were 3 players playing Varsity, and Junior Varisty had had a starting five of freshman. now there are only 5 players on Varsity? What happend to all the money that was spent on the "rides"? And Deend parker probably does have the most upside from everyone on the list. He just needs to become a better team player

Why is everybody fighting over the whole SHC thing. We all kno that at the end of the day, SHC would get blown away and those athletic scholarships are going to waste! Jorge deserved it,and so did Coach Buck! I'm happy for them, even though I go to Mission. And for everybody who's mad that Jerry brown wasn't the player of the year, you should be happy that he even made the first team because he's not that great. Jorge ate him up in the CCS final. Jorge Camacho was CLEARLY the BEST player in the city. He posted more double-doubles than anyone and carried his team to the CCS championship, demolishing SHC by 21 in the finals. Brown looked terrible in that game, as he did in all the games I've watched. I have a son who is an 8th grader and will be attending SI next year. SHC did offer him an "athletic scholarship" disguised as financial aid. I didn't need the money but they offered anyway. SI didn't offer me anything but we decided to send him there. I know of several kids with less than stellar academics receiving "rides" from SHC. It's a reality so let's not pretend it isn't happening. Yes most kids do qualify for aid but if they couldn't cross it over, they wouldn't have gotten a thing. It's working with the girls program but the boys program is in disarray and the alumni are starting to balk at this practice. They couldn't beat Riordan or SI this year regardless of the "rides"....GO WILDCATS!!!!!

There certainly is three 19yr. olds on SHC's Team, these kids know how old they are, and so do their peers who most have know them since kindergarten. Cooper, Green and Hubbard are all 19yrs old, ask Lee, he never denied his son was 19, he did say that he however can prove that at least 2 other kids at SHC is at least the same age as his son. My son graduated from SHC a few years back, yes on a full athletic ride, oh, and I do now, and have always had a nice paying job. I was approached during an AAU game and so was my son regarding the full ride to SHC, the offer was good and I bite.

Some of you have no idea what you are talking about when you talk about SHC. This isn't college there arent free rides, they may get money but you cant get athletic scholarships to play high school sports. Also one of the guys who got kicked out who you are refering to is still playing basketball at a city school over in the sunset district so how can you say half of the kids got kicked out. For third the guys who you say are 19 are not. Greene is actually not old for his class he just looks thirty. Hubbard and Cooper arent even that big if uve seen SHC play and not only that there is an age limit in sports where you cant be over 19 and play so your wrong in that area because of they were that old they would not be eligible

Game tied with less than 30-seconds left, Hom picked a dribble and had a clear breakaway layup. The ref called a reaching foul to give the game to Mission. The steal was clean and even if it wasn't, the refs should let the game be played. For the semi-finals of the AAA, I would expect top rate officials - that is not what I saw. The officials clearly favored Mission from the first play of the game -- even chatting it up with some of the players before the game started. Lowell was called for petty fouls if they tried to contest a shot, while the refs looked away at the over the back fouls. It was disappointing to see such an important game determined by poor officiating.

For my money, Marcus wells is the most talented point guard in the city. He has more of an all around game than any other and would have been a clear d-1 choice if he'd gone to a school where sports is more of a focus than the academics (e.g., the WCAL). Avg 20 pts, 6 assts, and 7 rbs per game is impressive by any calculation. He may be going d-3 but he's going to one of the best colleges in the country, that's equally impressive since he had to qualify with his game and his grades both.
