Thanks to a fourth disheartening road loss and a win by Louisville over the weekend, Georgetown relinquished its solitary hold on first place in the Big East for the first time this season. The Hoyas (20-4, 10-3) have the same conference record as the Cardinals (20-6, 10-3), but Louisville owns the tiebreaker thanks to its win over Georgetown on Feb. 9.

By the end of the day, the Hoyas also could fall out of the national top 10 — they’ve been ranked no lower than No. 9 this year — and find they are no longer a favorite for a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament regardless of whether they can beat the Friars (13-12, 4-9), who’ve lost seven of eight.

Return to Rhode Island » Georgetown hasn’t visited Providence since the 2003-04 season. Although the Hoyas have beaten the Friars in four of the last six meetings, they’ve lost four straight to them on the road.

Wallace still willing » Georgetown senior guard Jonathan Wallace’s career-high 26 points against Syracuse, including a 6-for-7 shooting performance from 3-point range, were rendered almost meaningless. Three of his treys came in the final minute, and by then the damage had already been done.

Little in reserve » The Hoyas had four different players score in double figures against Syracuse. But they were all starters, as Georgetown’s bench contributed zero points and four rebounds. Senior forward Patrick Ewing Jr. (0-for-4) went scoreless for the first time since the opening game of the season.
