OAKLAND (Map, News) - A 21-year-old Oakland man has been arrested and charged in connection with eight brutal attacks on elderly Berkeley residents since last November, police announced today.

Oakland resident Jahton Green was arrested Jan. 29 and booked into Santa Rita County Jail. According to Berkeley police Detective Sgt. Chris Stines, Green has shown little remorse for his actions, which have sent numerous victims to the hospital.

On Nov. 17, Green allegedly knocked an 82-year-old woman to the sidewalk while taking her purse. She required surgery for a fractured hip, police said.

Green is suspected of attacking and beating a 78-year-old man at his home in the 1300 block of Arch Street on Jan. 10. The victim was left in a pool of blood and suffered a broken hip, broken femur, head injuries and permanent hearing loss, according to police.

Police also said Green attacked a 93-year-old man on Jan. 28 and forced his way into the victim's home in the 1700 block of Oxford Street.

Green allegedly took the man's wallet, $320 in cash, credit cards and keys.

The victim was hospitalized in critical care and suffered serious injuries, including permanent hearing loss, police sad.

Detectives were able to track down Green after he repeatedly used credit cards and checks stolen from his victims. He was arrested at a residence in the 2000 block of McGee Avenue in Berkeley.

On Friday, the Alameda County District Attorney's Office charged Green with two counts of second-degree robbery with great bodily injury, one count of grand theft and one count of possession of stolen property.
