KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Map, News) - A United flight made an emergency landing in Kansas City Monday after smoke was reported in the cabin area.

Flight 871, which was headed from Washington to San Francisco, landed safely at about 10:20 a.m., said Joe McBride, spokesman for Kansas City International Airport.

The flight was diverted because of smoke in the cabin area, said United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy. She said no injuries were reported.

Maintenance crews were inspecting the aircraft, a Boeing 767, to determine the cause of the smoke, she said.

"It's too early to speculate on exactly what happened," McCarthy said.

The 215 passengers were being put on other flights, and United was also bringing in another aircraft for the remaining passengers, she said.
