Kevin Klink pleaded guilty Tuesday to killing 17-year-old Robert Brazell during a brawl last year at Mount Hebron High School.

Howard County (Map, News) - The Columbia high school wrestling champion accused of killing another student with a baseball bat pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter Tuesday in Howard Circuit Court. Kevin Klink, 19, of the 6800 block of Allview Drive in Columbia, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter and a dangerous weapon charges.

The agreement, which was reached late Friday, binds Howard Circuit Court Judge Lenore Gelfman to sentence Klink to 13 years in prison. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for Feb. 26 in Howard Circuit Court, said Wayne Kirwan, spokesman for the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Klink swung an aluminum bat at Robert Brazell’s head during a brawl at Mount Hebron High School on Feb. 24, 2007. Brazell, 17, was airlifted to Maryland Shock Trauma and died the next day.

Klink held at the Howard County Detention Center.

If you saw someone on the ground being beaten senseless, what would you do? And Kevin is the only one going to jail over this? What about the two dozen people who also fought and hurt people? What about the kid who permanently injured some other kid, but lived?

as i sit here reading this, it makes me sick to think that any one human being would not know what the outcome of hitting someone in the head with a bat would do. May, God help this world if this kid gets a slap on the hand. He should serve as much time that is allowed for such an act. May he remember everyday that he draws a breathe that he did this to another human being. A Wrestling Champion = Coward. What kind of champion needs a bat...Think about this!!!!

I note with interest that the defendant, Kevin Klink, who has financial resources, is represented by the Public Defender's Office. I know for a fact that Sam Truett, who is an excellent criminal defense attorney, is employed full time with the Public Defender's Office. My question is, why are our tax monies going for Mr. Klink's defense in his criminal cases?

It seems his former classmates are banding together on sites like Facebook.com trying to prove and persuade his innocence. Completely sickening on all counts. Disillusioned children ruining their lives over petty school-yard nonsense.
