Presidential hopeful U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., is expected to receive the endorsement of Baltimore City Mayor Sheila Dixon today.
BALTIMORE (Map, News) - Baltimore City Mayor Sheila Dixon is expected to endorse presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Barack Obama this morning, a gesture that might affect the upcoming Maryland presidential primary.
A consultant who worked on Dixon’s mayoral campaign distributed a news release Friday announcing Dixon would be making the endorsement at the Orchard Street Church before the parade celebrating the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The announcement caused speculation that Dixon would use the holiday to throw her support behind a black candidate for president.
“We’ve been told she is endorsing Obama,” said Del. Jill Carter, a member of the city’s General Assembly delegation.
Dixon spokesman Sterling Clifford declined to comment.
The recent victory by U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton in Nevada means the Maryland primary Feb. 12 might play some role in who wins the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.
Baltimore’s predominantly black population could provide crucial support for Obama, Carter said.

Is that supposed to be some kind of plus for him ??? Methinks it's irrelevant who Sheila the D endorses. Hopefully for Obama this will be a one-day news flash and then the story will die before too many hear of it on a national level. Let's see... the politics of hope vs.... what ? For what reason or reasons do you think that Ms. Dixon is going to endorse Obama? Why do you think she is making the announcement on Dr. King's birthday? It must be the myriad of experience that Obama has in government and foreign policy. Being a city councilman in Chicago and then serving as a Senator for a year is certainly enough experience to become the Commander-In-Chief of the most powerful fighting force even known to man and to become the ruler of the free world. Sure, that's why Ms. Dixon is backing Obama. Probably also has something to do with the fact that, "They just don’t have no black people up in there like that." As Ms. Dixon's Deputy Mayor puts it.

I have frequently used Yahoo's home page to link to the local news in my area.The Examiner has always had a story there along with the Baltimore Sun and WBAL and Wjz. Now they seem to have removed the Examiner. I can of course find it by going to bottom link. I guess Yahoo is also part of the Socialist Agenda. Who supports who is a meaningless. The Democrat Ticket will be Obama and Clinton. It is just a question of which one will be vice president on the ticket. Although I do not support Huckabee,the media lets us know of his religious ties.They do not show us Obama ties to his Racist Minister. Why do you suppose this is true.
