Mental hospital patient remains at large

A 48-year-old mental patient has been on the loose for four days after escaping from Spring Grove State Hospital.

On Jan. 13, Michael Dawson left the Spring Grove where he had been admitted as a patient a week earlier, state police said. Dawson had been arrested by Baltimore County Police in January and charged with first- and-second degree assault, resisting arrest, theft over $500 and malicious destruction of property. – Luke Broadwater

Police search for man in armed bank robbery

Police are searching for a man who robbed the BB&TBank in Finksburg Thursday morning.

The man used a weapon to force an undisclosed amount of money from employees at about 10 a.m. and fled, police said.

Brothers sent to prison for assaulting official of U.S. Postal Service

Two brothers who assaulted a U.S. Postal Service supervisor were sentenced to several months in prison Thursday.

U.S. District Judge William M. Nickerson sentenced John Bermudez Jr., 31, of Brooklyn, to 10 months in prison and sentenced his brother, Gregory Bermudez, age 28, of Millersville, to eight months in prison for assault of a government official.

Gregory Bermudez and John Bermudez Jr., worked at the United States Postal Service Incoming Mail Facility in Linthicum, prosecutors said.

On Feb. 8, 2006, a supervisor instructed John Bermudez to stop playing cards and return to work. Both defendants argued with the supervisor, who sought the assistance of the manager of the work floor, prosecutors said.

Gregory Bermudez struck the manager from behind with his fist and both defendants punched and kicked him as he lay on the ground. – Luke Broadwater
