‘Tribute to Ronald Reagan’ a good start for beleaguered Maryland Republicans

Annapolis (Map, News) - Three freshman Republican delegates from Anne Arundel decided to do something about the whining, recrimination and finger-pointing in the Maryland party over the loss of the governorship and seven seats in the House of Delegates.
They put together a “Tribute to Ronald Reagan” on Monday night that they hoped would be “a party-unifying event” and “the beginning of a recovery process” for the beleaguered GOP, Del. James King said.
The event at the BWI Hilton was organized by King and Dels. Steven Schuh and Nicholaus Kipke, and more than 400 people heard the late president’s adopted son Michael Reagan, a conservative radio talk-show host, speak about the personal side of the “Great Communicator.”
There were a lot of moist eyes in the hotel ballroom after the showing of a 10-minute video, which highlighted Reagan’s public life.
King said the three decided to honor “the man who inspired our political careers.” Schuh said they chose the Reagan theme as a way to bring the party together under the principles they shared: “limited government and personal responsibility.”
With corporate sponsorships and 600 tickets sold — there were scores of empty seats — King said the event was expected to have raised close to $200,000 to be split between the party’s state and county organizations and a slate the delegates are forming to help Republicans win in the 2010 elections.
“For the three delegates, this a terrific night,” said former Gov. Robert Ehrlich, who lost his re-election bid in 2006. “We could not have a better role model” than Ronald Reagan.
“We’ve had our year of feeling sorry for ourselves,” Ehrlich told the crowd. “Tonight is the hard road back to winning.”
Michael Reagan, who had flown in from California for the event, said the delegates’ plan to concentrate on electing people at the local level was the right approach.
“What you’re doing is so righteous — building the party from the bottom up,” Reagan told the delegates.

Waht happened to recinding the Homestead Application requirement? Was it too much to expect that someone would have to prove citizenship to get a driver's license? Can we really brag about a session that reflected no desire to control spending just after the largest tax increase in our history? I am appalled at Judge Bells' comment, "So what". So what? If the constitution was violated, through out the legislation and make them do it again, only do it lawfully this time. The attitude seems to be since it is done and the law (tax) is in place, there is nothing that can be done. So do we now accept an ongoing pattern of illegal behaviour by lawmakers because it is after the fact? If a criminal is uncostitutionally convicted of a crime do we just shrug our shoulders, leave them in jail, and say it's too late to correct the wrong doing? No, we make the state release them or do it over. That's what should happen in this case too, do it over or throw out the law. This attitude should come as no surprise in a state where even the highest level of the Judiciary is beholding to one political party.

Because they (i.e.,Miller, Busch, et alia) knew that they were operating outside of constitutional mandates. So, now the question is why there is a constitution if violating its provisions means no consequence.

As a student in the state of MD, Im glad the state system has brought Mr. Clark on. It is about time that state government recognize the importance of its college students as citizens, if the state of MD expects to a have a thriving state and want to retain out of state students upon graduation they should work to create a culture that protects students right. In the after affects of Obama in IA - I am sure elected officials will begin to see the value in the student vote!!
