Shares in Milpitas-based LSI Corp. (LSI) fell more than 8 percent by the close of the markets Wednesday, the largest change seen among local stocks tracked by the Examiner.

National Semiconductor Corp. (NSM) also fell more than 5.4 percent, while Sunnyvale-based Yahoo Inc. (YHOO) rose more than 1.9 percent and South San Francisco-based Genentech Inc. (DNA) rose 0.4 percent.

The markets closed down overall, with the Dow Jones down more than 1.6 percent, the Nasdaq more than 1.6 percent and the S&P 500 down more than 1.4 percent.

Local companies in the news included SanDisk Corp. (SNDK), which introduced a new flash storage drive Wednesday.
