“We had a good start,” he said. “But we’re just not playing well now.”

The Blast’s five-game winning streak to open the season is a distant memory after the team entered its three-week break on a five-game losing streak that dropped it from first to sixth place.

The Blast (5-5) entered this past weekend’s two-game road trip with expectations of returning home confident, but after a pair of three-point losses to Monterrey and California, the team is searching for answers.

Two days after the Blast suffered a 16-13 loss in Monterrey, Mexico against a team it defeated, 12-9, at 1st Mariner Arena earlier this season, it was outscored 5-2 during the second half in a 7-4 loss to California. The Cougars (6-3), who won just seven games last season, have already posted two victories over the Blast this season.

The Blast has plenty to time to figure out how to improve, as the team doesn’t play until it hosts the expansion New Jersey Ironmen (5-3) on Jan. 4 at 1st Mariner Arena.

“It’s tough to be in this situation,” Cabral said. “But we’ve got to fight through it.”
