SAN JOSE, Calif. (Map, News) - While “Cyber Monday,” the Monday after Thanksgiving, marks the beginning of the busy online holiday shopping season, it’s “Green Monday” when retailers really rake it in.

So says San Jose-based Ebay Inc. (EBAY), which has released data showing that the second Monday in December, which the company has dubbed “Green Monday,” is actually the busiest online shopping day of the year—and only getting busier.

Ebay company PayPal saw a 33 percent increase in payment volume from 2005 this year, while Shopping.com experienced record-breaking activity, a 54 percent increase from last year.

The peak of shopping activity on Shopping.com was between noon and 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, suggesting many people finished their holiday shopping on their lunch breaks.

The most popular gifts included Webkinz Reindeer Pets, Krups Espresso Makers, America Girl Dolls, Volkl Supersport Allstar Men’s downhill skis and the Nintendo Wii video game console.
