Blast coach Danny Kelly wants to make his stance clear regarding his team’s performance in its 19-11 loss to Detroit at 1st Mariner Arena on Saturday.

“That is completely unacceptable,” he said. “For this team, for this organization, for the fans here, that performance was completely unacceptable. A lot of guys in that locker room need to check themselves and figure out whether they want to be here or not because if you’re not going to leave it on the field, you’re not going to wear this jersey.”

The Blast gave another uninspiring effort as it lost its third straight game and fell for the seventh time in eight games to Detroit (5-2), which was an expansion team last year. The Blast, which was in first place fewer than two weeks ago, is floundering in a fifth-place tie with the California Cougars, 1 1/2 games behind league-leading Chicago (6-1)

The Blast have been outscored, 42-25, during their losing streak, and now travel west to face the Monterrey La Raza (2-7) in Mexico on Thursday before traveling to Stockton, Calif., to face the Cougars (5-3) on Saturday.

On Dec. 1, the Ignition scored the game’s final 11 points in a 11-4 victory to deal Baltimore its first loss of the season. On Saturday, Detroit scored nine points in the second quarter to take a 9-0 lead at intermission.

“I’m embarrassed with the performance we put on in the first half,” Kelly said. “And it’s not good enough for the people who come to see our games.”

The Blast pulled to within 14-11 midway through the fourth quarter on a goal by Denison Cabral. But that’s as close as it would get against the Ignition, who dominated the Blast despite not having two of its best players, Mike Apple and Jamar Beasley, the league’s reigning Most Valuable Player, were sidelined with injuries.

“We came flat,” said Cabral, whose second goal cut the Detroit lead to 14-11 with 8:58 to go in the fourth quarter. “That’s not a way to start a game at home, knowing that we wanted to win. It’s just not a way to start a game. Against a good team, you can’t start like that.”
