Welcome to this week’s edition of The Examiner’s “Tailgater of Year” contest, where The Examiner selects the best tailgaters from college and professional football games in the Baltimore area. We’re not just looking for a small grill with some hotdogs and hamburgers on it. We’re looking for extravagant, like a portable sports bar with menu items you can’t find on the dollar menu at a fast food restaurant.

We have high expectations for you, football fans. Please, don’t let us down.

Think you have what it takes?

At the end of the season, each of the weekly winners will be posted on examiner.com and the one with the highest number of votes gets the bragging rights, as well as a prize.

The past two weeks, we have traveled across the parking lots at M&T Bank Stadium and were very impressed by the effort of Al Mazzotta of White Marsh and Mike and Grant Connellee of Churchville.

Think you can beat either of them? The Ravens have one home game left this season, so let us know where to find you. If you think you can throw a party with the best of them, please e-mail tailgate@baltimoreexaminer.com.

THIS WEEK’S WINNERS

» Winner: “Big” Al Mazzotta of White Marsh

» Location: Parking Lot C

» Set-Up: Retro tailgate setup with 1994 Chevy conversion van that is decorated to serve for both Terrapins and Ravens football games.

» What’s on the grill: Rib eye steaks, venison, steamed shrimp

» Best Side Dishes: Brownies, cheese tray

» Signature Dish: Homemade crab soup

» Attendance: 10

» Experience: The group loathes many of the high-tech tailgate parties and prefers to show its team spirit in other ways, including Sykesville resident Stephanie Adams doing her impression of Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis’ entrance dance. “We’re just old-fashioned, blue-collar tailgaters who like to have fun,” Adams said.

» Winner: Mike and Grant Connellee of Churchville

» Location: Parking Lot C

» Set-Up: A 2006 Dodge Sprinter decked out with a 42-inch flat-screen television, a satellite, a 5,000-watt stereo system and a bathroom

» What’s on the grill: Hamburgers, steak

» Best Side Dish: Shrimp cocktail

» Signature Dish: Deep-fried turkey

» Attendance: As many as 100, depending on the game

» Experience: After getting tired of standing in line to use the bathroom, the duo installed one in their van. From there, the guys added flat screen televisions and a stereo system. “We just enjoy adding on all of the toys they have out there today,” Grant Connellee said.
