Denison Cabral became just the 22nd player in Major Indoor Soccer League history to amass 800 career points on Saturday, but wished he would have reached the milestone on a different day.

That’s because the 11-year veteran accomplished the feat during a 12-10 loss to California on Saturday at 1st Mariner Arena. With the Blast trailing early in the fourth quarter, the midfielder took a pass from Michael Todd and beat California goalkeeper Sanaldo for his 800th and 801st points of his career.

“After losing the game, I would change it for another day where we had a win,” Cabral said. “I was there just trying to win a game. My idea wasn’t to score the 800th point. It was just to win a game. But that happens.”

Cabral leads the team with seven goals and is second with 16 points. Machel Millwood, who has six goals and five assists, leads the Blast with 17 points.

“It was good for him,” Blast forward David Bascome said. “He’s been around the game for so long. It’s really good to see players like him reach those plateaus. Sometimes when you lose, it overshadows some of it.”
