Bimbo red-hot entering final month of NFL season

BALTIMORE (Map, News) - Fay Wray had King Kong, Tarzan had Cheetah, Aladdin had Abu, and the man with the yellow hat had Curious George. The Jungle Book featured King Louie, The Lion King had the wisdom of Rafiki and Nintendo used Donkey Kong to make millions selling video games.

The Examiner has Bimbo, who as far as we’re concerned, is the most magnificent monkey of all time. She might not be as famous as those aforementioned primates — at least not yet — but there’s no chance any of those monkeys are in the same league than our pigskin-picking princess when it comes to predicting which NFL teams will win each week.

“She’s her own Hollywood story,” Colleen Layton-Robbins, Bimbo’s owner. “She loves looking good and looking in the mirror.”

Bimbo went 12-4 last week, making her 46-14 (76.6 percent) the past four weeks. For the year, she is 108-68 — not bad for a 36-year-old monkey who can’t speak human and didn’t know football from baseball before she started watching NFL games alongside friends Oogie, Zoey and Cocoa.

Bimbo correctly picked the Chargers to defeat the Ravens. But her record suffered when the Cardinals decided to play like a junior varsity team throughout an overtime loss to San Francisco and the Giants’ Eli Manning decided it was a good idea to throw passes with less accuracy than Oogie displays when she plays catch with her caretakers.

“Between the blankets and her football and her worms and her mirrors she’s in real thanksgiving heaven,” Layton-Robbins said.

Bimbo added some big names to her list of defeated opponents a week after knocking off four-time Super Bowl-wining quarterback Joe Montana.

By going 12-4 in Week 12, Bimbo took to the bank Gary Geisel, the chief executive of Provident Bank, who went 10-6. Bimbo also defeated Stephen Geppi (11-5), a minority owner of the Orioles and the president and chief executive officer of Geppi’s Entertainment Museum.

However, Marty Bass, a longtime news and weather man for WJZ-13, went an impressive 13-3 to continue the dominance of Baltimore’s best news station over Bimbo, as sports anchors Mark Viviano and Stan Saunders each posted victories over Bimbo earlier this season.

This week, Bimbo faces Brian Rogers, chairman and chief investment officer for T. Rowe Price, which manages $396.8 billion in assets. She’s also challenging Stephen Berger, a Columbia native who is an All-Star midfielder for Major League’s Lacrosse’s Long Island Lizards and a member of the U.S. National Lacrosse Team. He’s also the head of sales in Mid-Atlantic Region for Maverick Lacrosse, an innovative manufacturer of lacrosse equipment. Lastly, she’s facing a fellow female — Laura Gamble, who is the President of Bank of America Maryland.

And just like last week, the winner gets a banana.

Armani picked the winner. Maybe he will be in a commercial with Eli Manning. Has he made his superbowl pick yet?

Geez people. This is about fun, and about some publicity for Frisky's -- a wonderful place that does great work for animals. My wife and I have even taken a Care package to Bimbo. Instead of writing comments here to complain, write a check to Frisky's instead. I did!

There are a lot of animal rights people that don't agree with this and when people have Alerts on their computer for such things as this we can't help but to read them. In order to make them go away the act needs to go away.

Did anyone else notice that the monkey 98% of the time picks the team held on the left side of her? Gee if I was a betting person and the one handing the monkey the choices I would always hand her the one I wanted to win to her left. God this is so stupid!!!
