Cyber Monday shopping up from last year

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Map, News) - San Jose-based Ebay Inc. (EBAY) on Tuesday reported increased online shopping on “Cyber Monday” and over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in general.

The Monday after Thanksgiving, sometimes referred to as “Cyber Monday,” traditionally has marked the start of the peak online shopping season.

Paypal, an Ebay company, reported a 34 percent increase in total payment volume Monday from last year to this. Shopping.com, another Ebay company, reported a 28 percent increase compared to last year.

Ebay.com was the most visited ecommerce site on “Black Friday,” the day after Thanksgiving according to Neilsen/NetRatings, Ebay said in a statement.

Overall traffic to online merchants for the entire Thanksgiving holiday weekend, from Friday through Monday, was also up 30 percent over last year.
