BALTIMORE (Map, News) - Authorities have begun moving the wreckage from a freight train carrying potentially hazardous materials that partially derailed near M&T Bank Stadium this morning, and they are very cautiously allowing traffic and pedestrians into the vicinity.

Officials say there were no injuries and no sign of a leakage or spill, although they say at least a dozen cars came off the tracks and about five overturned.

The accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday in an industrial park just south of downtown.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. It could not be immediately determined what the derailed tankers were carrying, although a fire department spokesman described the contents as potentially hazardous.

Officials had stopped traffic in the area for about two hours until they could determine the degree of the hazard.

The derailment occurred within walking distance of the home of the Baltimore Ravens, although the team is playing in San Diego on Sunday.
