VALLEJO (Map, News) - Vallejo Vice Mayor Gary Cloutier spent nearly five hours in jail Sunday morning after he was arrested on suspicion of being intoxicated in public in Palm Springs, Calif., according to Palm Springs police Sgt. Mitch Spike.

Cloutier, 45, was reportedly "staggering and could barely stand" when officers arrested him in the area of Arenas Road and Calle El Segundo at 3:44 a.m., Spike said.

Police determined Cloutier, who was found alone and sitting in the driver’s seat of a Cadillac, had been at a bar prior to his arrest.

Cloutier was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and booked into Palm Springs Jail, according to Spike. Cloutier was released at 9:10 a.m. after promising to appear in court in Riverside County, Spike said.
