Some of you folks need to chill. Our new state sales tax is around the average nation wide. Some states have up to 8% sales tax with additional localities adding additional taxes on top of that. The reason our budget seemed "balanced" during Ehrlich was because he diverted millions of dollars from the transit fund into the operating budget. Do you commute in MD? Want to see traffic get worse? Furthermore, the slow down in the housing market has reduced state income. This tax hike sucks but the state has to pay its bills.

i will shop in delaware and on the net as much as possible. as for spending in state, i will watch my purchases. kasemyer works for IWIF at about 75 thosand a year, as does nathaniel oakes, and they both get paid for time in the general assembly. same place that yo'malley's father-in-law, joe curran works for $125 thusand a year. none give a damn about working families.

Does the legislature think that everyone in Maryland is stupid or just votes the straight democratic line. Many Democratic legislators voted against this increase. I guess if we had a budget and we could really see what his majesty is talking about, the blow maybe easier. it is very hard to digest a tax increase when you are not sure where the money is going. At least give us all a big wet kiss!

My job will end 12/31/07 due to the insurance company that I work for losing a huge Baltimore City Government contract, because of the cutbacks in staff and government spending. I received my pink-slip notice yesterday. But, hey I am not going to lose faith now, all is well with my soul, Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound. I know whom I have trust in and it in not Annapolis, MOM, or legislators, but the same people our countries founding fathers had trust in, God. These types of adversities not only show what others are made of (MOM, Annapolis), it also shows what we are made of. So lets pull together Marylanders and get er done!

maybe I'm alone on this; but I saw nothing wrong with adding sales taxes to some services (health clubs, tanning, etc.) Wouldn't it make more sense to add a few cents onto something new; rather than somethihng we need and are already paying an arm and a leg for? I completelt understand where those business owners are coming from...but if we don't generate some income (since cuts are obviously not on the horizon) we won't be able to spend a penny on those luxuries anyway! As a single person (NOW working three jobs) struggling to maintain my mortgage and $600/m heating bill...I need a break! I cannot imagine what people with dependants, or on a fixed income are going through. We are all in the same boat now, no matter our class/race...we need to unite and get someone with some Fiscal Common Cents in there...how do we stop this? I am a democrat, but didn't vote for O'Malley...I didn't vote for Earlich either- is it too late to reconsider my ballot?

It was confirmed by an interview of Katie Curran O'Malley in the Sun Paper shortly after O'Malley's election that the Currans and the O'Malleys are Shanty when Katie C. O'Malley stated in that interview that Martin O'Malley lapped her bath water and the fact that she was pregnant at the time of their marriage at the Cathedral. I remember their wedding well. She wore a beautiful white gown. As we all know, white is a symbol of virginity. Shanty will be shanty.

If this tax plan passes, do the voters of Maryland have any other recourse? Check out Article 16, Section 3 of the Maryland Constitution. Not sure if it is applicable but it bears reading. Maybe someone can explain it.

Gosh, I will have to get a more fuel efficient car -- maybe even get 20 mpg instead of the 11 mpg I am getting now, eat less junk food, quit smoking, wear my existing clothes a little longer (which I will be able to do if I am not eating so much junk food), get a 48" widescreen plasma TV, instead of the 50" one that I really wanted. I MAY have to put off getting HD cable and content myself with watching Don & Marty in 1-D, rather than 3-D. Read library books instead of new ones. Holy cow, I dont know HOW I will cope (sigh).
