After his undefeated Blast outscored its four opponents, 52-23, Coach Danny Kelly doesn’t envision making any changes for tonight’s game at 8 against Monterrey Mexico’s La Raza at 1st Mariner Arena.

“For us, it’s just about continuing what we’re doing,” he said. “Our focus is going out there, making sure we’re focused every single shift we’re on the floor and do whatever we can and doing the little things it takes to win the game.”

Baltimore (4-0) is a half-game ahead of the Chicago Storm (3-0) for first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League, but Monterrey (1-2), an expansion team, is tied with Milwaukee for fifth and is coming off a 20-10 loss to the California Cougars.

The Blast is coming off a dominating, 14-7 victory over Orlando last week.

Led by two goals from forward Denison Cabral, five players scored for Baltimore, including three in the first six minutes, as the Blast jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter.

Baltimore has had at least five players score in each of its past three games, led by forward Machel Millwood’s five goals. Millwood’s five goals are one behind Detroit’s Ricardinho for the league lead. However, 12 Blast players have either posted a goal or an assist.

“We’re playing very unselfishly now, and that’s the key to our success,” Kelly said. “Guys are genuinely happy for their teammates when they’re doing well and scoring goals. We need to keep that going.”

Monterrey, one of three expansion franchises along with Orlando and New Jersey, dropped its inaugural game to Chicago, but topped the defending champion, Philadelphia KiXX, a week later. However, the California Cougars were able score 20 points in a win over Monterrey last week.

Genoni Martinez, a three-time MISL Defender of the Year, has scored twice and leads Monterrey with seven blocks and three assists. Defender Jose Birche (three goals) and midfielder Ivan Medina (three goals) are the La Raza’s primary scoring options.

“I’m told to be aware that they can hit the ball from anywhere,” Baltimore goalkeeper Dave Kern said.

Kern will make his second career start in place of Sagu, who is nursing an injured right calf. Baltimore forwards Giuliano Celenza and David Bascome are doubtful for tonight’s game with ankle and hip injuries.

“I think [Monterrey is] going to be a tricky team, very skillful,” Blast forward Matt Watson said. “We’ve just got to be more stable. We have more structure than them, so hopefully that helps out.”
