BELMONT (Map, News) - In a move to expand assistance for veterans in San Mateo County, officials Tuesday will celebrate the opening of the county’s new Veteran Services Office in Belmont.

The new office, staffed by two county workers, is designed to help military veterans and their families learn about and apply for programs, services and benefits available to them, from the federal to the local level.

“With increasing numbers of veterans returning home, now is an ideal time to put additional resources toward services and outreach,” Supervisor Jerry Hill said.

The new office is on the campus of the county’s Human Services Agency and at 260 Harbor Blvd. in Belmont. It will be staffed from Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tuesday’s celebration and open house will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., with speakers Hill and Human Services Agency Director Beverly Beasley Johnson. Veterans are encouraged to attend.
