You wrote a mock advice column for the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” Web site. What advice would you give Mayor Gavin Newsom? I would tell him to keep [it] in your pants and govern The City. There’s so many incredible woman in San Francisco and you had to choose this particular one? So there was no one else you could sleep with?
How do San Francisco audiences compare with other cities? I don’t get out on the road much, but San Francisco is one of the few cities I like being in. People here are smart and sophisticated.
Last time you were here? Oh, god, maybe in the ’80s.
What is it about San Francisco that you like? The street life. I live in Manhattan and I don’t like cities where you have to get in and out of your car. I like to walk. I like to encounter all kinds of different people.
Most interesting experience walking through New York City? Here’s a weird thing. People walk up to me and beg me to curse at them like I do on [“Curb Your Enthusiasm”]. That’s what my life has become. Five or six times a day. Sometimes I’ll be gracious to fans and I can see that they’re disappointed that I’m so nice and that I’m not screaming at them.
