SAN MATEO, Calif. (Map, News) - A bottle of liquor was the only shooting victim in an armed robbery at approximately 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, but a suspect was able to escape with nearly $500 in a blue pillowcase.

At 8:15 p.m., an unknown man entered Phillips Liquor at 8 W. 41st Ave. with a black semi-automatic handgun. After confronting two customers and a clerk, the man demanded money and fired a single shot into a liquor shelf behind the counter before fleeing the scene on foot, Cpt. Kevin Raffaelli said.

According to initial reports, the man fled west on 41st Avenue before heading south on Beresford Avenue.

He was described by witnesses as a white or Hispanic male, approximately 25 years old, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 200 pounds. He was wearing a black zip-up sweatshirt, blue jeans or overalls and black shoes.
