examiNation: What do you think about Hollywood writers going on strike?

like most unions, a bunch of greedy sob's. i will watch movies and read books. let then starve.

Almost all of the stuff on network TV, other than the news, is crap. It panders to the lowest level of intelligence, interest, education and values in our society. It is enslaved to ratings and profits. Sure, they have the right to strike, but anyone who actually misses the drivel they produce has to be hear to find.

Every group of workers, no matter how well or poorly paid have fundamental right, based ultimately on the right of association, to form a union and, if the employer will not bargain ( to bargain means to give-and-take, to trade one thing off against another, and to negotiate as equal powers or partners at the table and in good faith) then they have an inherent right to act collectively and withdraw their services. The pressures are then magnified towards a "winner-loser: result, as the workers go without pay and the employer goes without product. In the end, one side or the other blinks, so to speak. But, we are only dealing with mere entertainment, so no vital service or need is being denied, whatever some movie or TV addicts may think or beieve.

Who cares? Most shows aren't worth watching anyway.

I think they should vote out the union and each person negotiate their own deal. This way the ones that are good would make more money and the losers can find another job.

Leopard- what you say is true.We know it's true. What is also true is that much of America is sick and tired of what they are writing, how the media plays it all up, how so many in the industry assume that our lives will crumble without them pumping out one liners and violence. I feel for the poor starving artist writer, but if he has a day job he will eat.

Live in poverty? Are you for real?

I have to say that I'm surprised at all the bitterness toward writers and actors. What causes that? Only a handful of writers and actors make the huge salaries, the rest live in poverty or have a day job, or they come from money so they don't have to work.

Maybe I'd be a more sympathetic to them if we didn't have crap like "King of Queens" and "According to Jim" for so long.

I hope they fire all of them. They all write nothing but junk anyway.

I hope they stay on strike. The crap that's on television now is an insult to American viewers. No wonder we have the elected officials that we have...America has gotten stupid.

We need new screen writer with a wider vision for all. I am sick of the stupid shows , it does not take much to mimic ignorant behavior and call it a show. What happened to true acting. It appears as if they write stuff that does not take much brains to act out. We need to be careful about the messages taht we send to America and around the world.

Hopefully they stay out for a couple of years!

If it comes down to greed and making more money than why don't we all go on strike? Geesh, with gas prices soaring and oil on the rise, what else is there to do!

if leopard boy is right about the bottom rung,a mystery has been solved.that explains why everything on the dish network is either KRAP or RERUNS!im over ruled in the household,but if i had my way id shotgun the sat dish and the gd tv.

Hollywood writers on strike? Whoopie Do. What they've been producing for both the big and small screens has been abysmal, not worth watching. I've had better things to do than watch that junk, and have been doing so years. IOW -- I could care less about them or their strike.

"R.J. said: I feel soooooo sorry for those poor millionaires!" Most writers aren't millionaires. They are the lowest rung on the Hollywood food chain and they are traditionally treated like crap. Also, their writing is often changed by the executives (the actual millionaires).

I feel soooooo sorry for those poor millionaires! Maybe Shrub should give them another $3 trillion in tax breaks too. Greed is good.

Finally a break from Hollywood. Has anyone noticed that most Americans confuse celebrity gossip with actual news? That most people know more about their favorite celebrities than they know about their congressman or senator? Mos of America has no real understanding of what is happening. They seem only to get information from propaganda and E News.

If the Hollywoood writers never came back to work I would not miss them. Ninety nine percent of what they gin out is garbage.
