SAN JOSE (Map, News) - The San Jose Police Department today identified the driver who struck and killed a woman and a six-year-old boy on North Fourth Street Sunday evening as Shalita Shipp.

Shipp, 40, was driving a silver 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser at an unknown speed southbound on 4th Street around 8:30 p.m., according to San Jose Police Department spokesman Jermaine Thomas. The woman and boy were crossing the street in the middle of the block between Younger and Hedding streets when Shipp struck them.

Shipp was taken into custody on an unrelated outstanding warrant.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor at the time of the collision, according to Thomas.
