SAN FRANCISCO (Map, News) - The extreme skier, who took Gold in the Winter X Games superpipe competition in 2003 and 2004, is performing at the Esurance Icer Air event at AT&T Park in The City this weekend. Dumont, 21, has starred in many extreme sports films, including “Playground,” now screening in San Francisco. The athlete influenced the creation of a model of skis called “The Dumont,” aptly named after him.

How important is Icer Air for you? I’m usually known as a halfpipe guy, and this is big air. I’d like to go out and broaden my repertoire. I got second place two years ago. But the jump hasn’t been up to par. Hopefully, they can keep getting all the kinks out so we can show all of our abilities that we couldn’t in the last couple of years.

Do you want free-skiing to be part of the Olympics? The Olympics are not just people in San Francisco or the U.S. watching — it’s everybody around the world. I would do anything to go to the Olympics. If we got into the Olympics, we could be a little more credible as athletes rather than just a bunch of crazy kids on skis.

Do you have any other hobbies besides skiing? Skiing is pretty demanding — it’s year round. It’s the best job I could have ever thought of having. Today I came down from the mountain and said, “Another day at the office.”

Free-skiing has an age limit, so what will happen when you get older? I’m 21. I’m getting old — you can only take hits so much. When you’re an older guy, you ski on powder and shoot films more. I’m also starting a company called Empire — it’s a glove company. We are going to make gloves aesthetically pleasing and as mobile as we need them to be for our sport.
