Eliminating non-believers has not worked in extinguishing counter-beliefs throughout history. We've tried feeding the Christians to the lions, burning supposed witches at the stake, and consigned Jews to death camps to name a few, all are still with us. Bin Laden's latest call to arms will be no more effective.
Pedro: There have been many Bin Ladens for thousands of years. The extremist muslim doctrine teaches it's followers to convert or eliminate. Where have you been?
Let him call his supporters to arms. Luckily for us...Americans are already armed. In spite of gun control we are the most heavily armed people in the industrialized world.
Makes me want to buy a new gun myself... lets all get a new gun.
He, dead or alive, is nothing more than a symbol. a Zapata or El Cid. In reality he is cowering in some cave a living cadaver. The French and English had it right every so many years scores of fanatical Muslim radicals had to be stacked up like cord wood to avert the disaster we have allowed to happen today.
When did defending the homeland become self-righteous? This is a fine example of a member of the lunatic fringe. A nation cannot stand for anything if it is not standing.
RJ: But, war is Good for Business! It benefits so many: undertakers, funeral homes, casket makers, cemeteries, houses of "worship," probate attorneys, the Grim Reaper (the Taxman), real estate brokers and attorneys, doctors, hospitals, medical manufacturers, pharms, transnational shippers, and energy, security and construction megacorps. But not the average citizen.
The ultimate balance is struck and we learn what the value of a dollar is, and what the value of a life is.
By the Shrub's math, the value is low for both. Thanks so much, Commander in Cheat!
Perhaps R.J. could instruct the rest of us how one would have "worked out a deal" with terrorists who took Americans prisoner in Iran during the Carter administration, and bombed the Kobar towers, the USS Cole, bombed the World Trade Center in '93 during Clinton's command. There doesn't seem to be a record of historic diplomacy during those years to refer to. Only cowardice on Carter's part and indifference and refusal to deal with BinLaden on Clinton's part. Bush may have made some missteps in dealing with a devious, crazed enemy along the way, but at least he isn't hiding under his desk or inserting cigars where they don't belong. When one looks to how and when this conflict started, look no further than the failed, disgraced administrations of Carter and Clinton. You can't reason with insane, suicidal enemies.
If America wasn't so self rightous there would still be over a million people still alive, a trillion dollars would still be in the treasury, and 9/11 and the Iraq and Afghanistan wars would not have happened. Too bad we have a gunslinger for a president instead of a reasonable diplomat that can work out a deal. Look what happened in Ireland when the IRA was reasoned with. But how many decades did that take? You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar. But neoCONs would rather beat a dead horse, at the exspense of U.S. troops and taxpayer money. Hurray for perpetual war! Haliburton makes a killing.
Wheezy mumblings from a toothless old tiger who's becoming increasingly beside-the-point. The USA has already destroyed Iraq and still cannot inflict "democracy" even a $Half Billion later. But, sure, call the stragglers and a-Q also-beens to congregate in Iraq... makes it easier to finish rounding them up. Osama otherwise is about as relevant a force in Iraq as what's for lunch at the Chez Henri is.
Hey, 10:00 a.m., how do you know bin Laden is dead? When in December of 2001 did he die. I must have missed the news that month. Live in your little world, pal.
It shows that he and his band of idiots are on the ropes. The noose is tightening around him, and his influence is waning among muslim sects. Why the Liberal Democraps want to surrender in defeat to BinLaden now is curious but telling. To kill, capture, or render him to meaningless status would be disaterous for The Socialist Dumbocrats and their maniacal 'hate Bush' campaign. Here's to finishing off this puke and with him his political partner, the Democrat Party.
Rhetoric, rhetoric, rhetoric, rhetoric. I'm so sick of his bozo shooting off his mouth; I'd hope that we can someday soon infiltrate his "lair" and take him out.
The analysts and so-called experts tell us Ben Laden has enormous influence if not formal authority over different terrorists and radical Islamic groups that, ordinarily, tend to go their own way, if not actually hostile to each other. He senses the need to for unity against what he believes is "the main enemy", that is, the USA and Israel. Failure to capture him, kill him or at least shut him up is a major embarassment to the USA. More, he actually is important - not so much as an active battlefield commander, perhaps, but as the inspirational, prophet-like leader - the central rallying point, as it were.
