Police blotter: Officer charged with driving under the influence
- Montgomery County police officer John Distel, 32, a six-year veteran, was arrested early Friday morning for driving his police cruiser under the influence of alcohol, Montgomery County police said. Around 1:25 a.m. Distel crashed his cruiser into a barrier on the left shoulder of the southbound side of Route 270. When officers responded to the accident they smelled alcohol on Distel's breath and arrested him, police said. He has been charged with driving under the influence and suspended with pay as the investigation continues. No one was injured.
Blotter: Police probe death of man connected to fraud investigation
- D.C. police are investigating whether the shooting of a 24-year-old man may be connected to a federal fraud investigation, authorities said. Leituenant Harris Jr., of Capitol Heights, was gunned down in his car Thursday night, three weeks after authorities arrested him after finding fraudulent credit cards, a few small bags of marijuana, and eight U.S. Department of State passport applications during a routine traffic stop. Harris told federal agents that he obtained the passport information from a co-conspirator who works for the U.S. Department of State.

- Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who died Wednesday night after D.C. emergency responders went to the wrong address, D.C. Fire Chief Dennis Rubin said.
