Stanford's Clayton knocked out
- The dream season for Stanford freshman Alex Clayton ended when he was eliminated from the NCAA men’s tennis tournament by top-seeded Somdev Devvarman of Virginia 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the semifinals. Clayton (30-9) jumped ahead of the defending singles champion with an early 3-1 lead in the first set, but some costly errors cost Clayton the set — and eventually the match.
Stanford falls to Texas A&M, ousted from super regional
- The Stanford softball team was eliminated from the NCAA super regional after suffering a 9-4 loss to Texas A&M on Sunday.
Stanford gymnast Carney honored
- Stanford gymnast Dylan Patrick Carney was named the men’s winner of the $21,5000 Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarship, the NCAA said. Recipients must have a 3.5 grade-point average and show superior character and leadership while displaying how sports has positively influenced their lives. The five-time All-American worked with AIDS patients in South Africa.
