3 days ago- On the matter of Trinidad — the D.C. neighborhood currently wracked by violence — we have heard plenty from police brass, civil libertarians and residents. Now, a word from street cops, the grunts who have to keep the peace.
8 days ago- I am sitting across from the most powerful public official in Washington, D.C., in the eyes of veteran TV reporter Tom Sherwood. Guess who?
10 days ago- We have witnessed plenty of thrusts and parries and potshots since the Supreme Court gunned down the District’s “toughest in the nation” firearms ban a few weeks ago. Lawyers and politicians and zealots on both sides of the ever-heated issue of gun rights have been shooting off their mouths. Congress has been making mischief. The mayor and the D.C. Council have changed the local law to make it comply with the Supreme Court’s decision. Legal challenges will ensue.

24 days ago- Patrick Mara stopped by the D.C. Republican Committee offices at 13th and K streets last Wednesday to see if anyone had signed his petitions for an at-large seat on the city council. A campaign volunteer had dropped them off a week before.

36 days ago- Ask most Washingtonians what they believe is the most important public policy issue facing the city — the one that will affect the nation’s capital for decades — and they will answer: education.
38 days ago- About a year ago a friend parked his car downtown on K Street. As he was about to open the driver’s door, a small bus pulled too close and sideswiped his car, ripped off the mirror and continued down the street.
43 days ago- I tend to toss most data-packed reports that come my way. They rarely break much news, and my attention span is notoriously short. But two reports arrived this week that describe two very distinct parts of the nation’s capital; the juxtaposition was both jarring and enlightening.
45 days ago- When someone mentions Ballou Senior High, you might think duck and cover. This is the D.C. high school east of the Anacostia River where a ticked-off teenager drove by after school one day and sprayed students with bullets. You might figure gunplay was a regular after-school activity.
