- Looks like K.J. Choi’s recent success hasn’t come unnoticed. After winning a couple of PGA Tour events this year, his homeland of South Korea has a rekindled craze for golf. Children mimic his swing and Choi is recognized as if he were Tiger Woods. “It went to another level when I won the two tournaments this year. It just created that much more buzz,” he said.
- Looks like Gary Player was right when he said he knew for a fact that golfers were taking steroids. At least one is using for sure. Former PGA champion Shaun Micheel was given a synthetic steroid two years ago after he was diagnosed with low testosterone. “I’ve been on it a couple of years, and I suspect I’ll be on it a long time,” Micheel said.
- It’s supposed to be the highlight of the Midsummer Classic. More exciting than the All-Star Game itself, they say. Brings out the little kid in all of us, we’re told, this amazing display of power and might that lifts us right up out of our seats.
- After trudging up a steep hill to the 18th tee Sunday at Bulle Rock, Michelle Wie exhaled. “Long walk,” she said with a smile as playing partner Laura Diaz nodded in agreement.

- After a gorgeous day of golf Thursday in the McDonald’s LPGA Championship, 67 was the magic number at Bulle Rock. With today’s round remaining before the cut, Birdie Kim, Kim Saiki-Maloney and Angela Park are tied for the lead after each shooting 5-under-par 67.
- Michelle Wie probably won't be making any unnecessary stops in Havre de Grace anytime soon. Drama seems to find the 17-year-old Hawaiian golfer whenever she visits the Harford County locale.
- Lorena Ochoa, the No. 1 female golfer in the world, is the early favorite when the McDonald’s LPGA Championship tees off this morning at 7:15 in Havre de Grace. But the major tournament and Bulle Rock have a way of leveling the 150-golfer playing field, which is competing for a $300,000 winner’s check from a $2 million total purse.
- Sports personality Kenny Mayne has a new primetime show tonight at 8 on ABC: “Fast Cars & Superstars.” The show will pit top-name stars (among those participating are Jewel, William Shatner, Tony Hawk and John Salley) in skills competitions, but does give them expert help in the form of some of NASCAR’s star drivers (Jimmie Johnson, Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards, Kasey Kahne, Kurt Busch and Jamie McMurray).
- Her hat seemed slightly lower, casting a dark shadow over her hidden eyes. Before the assumed barrage of questions and accusations, Michelle Wie defended her withdrawal from last week’s Ginn Tribute in South Carolina during a press conference at Bulle Rock in Havre de Grace, home of this week’s McDonald’s LPGA Championship.
- After staying mum on her injuries this season, Michelle Wie opened her 17-minute news conference Tuesday at Bulle Rock in Havre de Grace with a five-minute explanation of how both wrists have hampered her play.
