Would you believe ... it’s not bad?
- If you attend the latest exploitation of baby boomer TV nostalgia, “Get Smart,” don’t worry. You’ll stay smart — well, smart enough — because this big-screen adaptation of the 1960s series isn’t nearly as dumb as such predecessor bombs of similar origins as “The Flintstones,” “Bewitched,” “Lost in Space” and last month’s “Speed Racer.”
Myers proves he’s a one-trick pony in ‘Love Guru’
- “The Love Guru” is unenlightened. Mike Myers’ New Age spirituality send-up, his first live action project since 2003’s Dr. Seuss debacle “The Cat in the Hat,” might have been subtitled like one of his protagonist’s self-help books, “When Bad Movies Happen to Narcissistic Movie Stars.”

‘Don’t Mess With’ seeing this movie

- If you thought your “peeps” were dysfunctional, just wait until you get a load of the Paskowitz kin in “Surfwise.” About what some consider to be the first family of surfing, director Doug Pray’s indie documentary won’t just make you feel better by comparison about your own clan’s neuroses. It’s probably the most engrossing movie of the year so far.

Review: Indy returns in another thrilling but brainless adventure
- There’s this scene in the long-awaited fourth installment in the franchise, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.” Our hero and his returning love interest from “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” Karen Allen as Marion, find themselves in a remote jungle, captured by bad guys pointing weapons at them. A sexagenarian Harrison Ford shrugs and quips, “Same old, same old.”

Misfits and misspellings: ‘Son of Rambow’ is a sweet homage to 1980s
- The intentionally misspelled “Son of Rambow” is a sweet though minor English mix with a no-name junior cast. Part broad coming-of-age comedy, part dysfunctional-family drama, it’s also an affectionate homage to early 1980s nostalgia and a certain bandolier-laden Vietnam vet who looks an awful lot like Sly Stallone in a headband.
